Urban Homestead Montreal offers inspiring and fun presentations and hands-on workshops throughout the city of Montreal. Our events are for all ages and we can travel to your site for our events. Topics range from sustainability (gardening, ecological lifestyle) to food (transformation, fermentation) to creative fun (terrariums and crafts.)

Fees for groups:

$10 – $40 per participant, depending on topic, length of event, number of participants and materials required.

Minimum 10 participants – Maximum participants varies from 15-40 depending on the event

Plant-based Cheesemaking

Whether you`re lactose intolerant, vegan or a foodie, this is an empowering opportunity to learn how to get started making fresh and fermented plant-based cheeses at home.

Join us as we explore a variety of animal by-product-free cheeses, most gluten-free, which can be used for a variety of culinary purposes. We will demonstrate how to prepare various cheeses, using bases of nuts, seeds, beans and more to create spreadable, meltable, creamy and delicious alternatives to conventional cheese.

Learn all about vertical gardening and optimizing your small balcony space for a productive garden! Empower yourself with new skills to make your ultimate accessible balcony garden.

Fermenting is a great way of preserving foods, increasing their nutritional value, adding probiotics to your diet and getting your taste buds going! Fermented foods are not only rich in various probiotics but also have beneficial enzymes that help your heal your gut and assist digestion. Plus, transforming food is empowering and fun!


FOOD: Growing, Transforming and Finding Nourishment Year-round

It is obvious that it is more important than ever to be aware of our food. In this workshop, we discuss optimizing interaction with the local food cycle as well as tips and tricks to reduce waste at each stage, from production to transformation. We`ll share ideas for easy projects of interior and exterior food cultivation as well as how to find ethical and affordable ingredients in Montreal. During this workshops we will outline:

-What supplies and tools are needed

-Locations to buy your materials

-Best practices for keeping your terrarium environment healthy

-How to make a hanging terrarium

Each particpant will be provided with all the materials to build their own glass terrarium to take home or give as a gift. We will be creating the terrariums together during the workshop.
